What type of Colorado Bed and Breakfasts are there?

Colorado has many bed and breakfasts that offer something for every traveler. Unlike in the New England States, bed and breakfasts in Colorado are not all in stately Victorian era mansions. While some Colorado bed and breakfasts are in large Victorian homes, another type of bed and breakfast in Colorado would be a mountain lodge with fireplaces, log accents and elk antlered chandeliers.

The Victorian B&Bs are located primarily in older established towns and cities as well as old mining towns throughout Colorado. The “lodge” type of Colorado bed and breakfast will usually be in or near a mountain town like Estes Park, Manitou Springs or at a ski area. Any of these may also be called a bed and breakfast inn.

The Colorado Bed and Breakfast Experience

The term B&B is used loosely and could be any overnight accommodations where breakfast is served. We generally exclude chain hotels with complementary breakfast, and in fact these hotels don't usually show up in listings. Also, a homeowner with 2 spare rooms may make extra income by operating as a B&B, though this is not what most vacationer expect, either.

Many bed and breakfasts in Colorado will serve a full hot breakfast. Often, the innkeepers have closely held recipes for brunch favorites like omelets and muffins. A bed and breakfast that offers a Continental breakfast with pastries and beverages isn't necessarily a bad choice either, as B&B pastries are most always baked fresh at the inn.

While not all bed and breakfasts in Colorado will be furnished with antiques, the decor is usually more artful and unique when compared with chain hotels and the linens are more luxurious. Guests will usually feel pampered during their stay.

Traditionally many bed and breakfasts were geared to adults, however, Colorado has a good number of B&Bs that accept children. If you are looking for a romantic bed and breakfast experience, with amenities geared to couples, please read our article on Colorado romantic bed and breakfasts.
